Welcome to the Small Biz Web Design Company

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions. Here are a few for now, more will be coming soon…

Why are we such good value?
It has become apparent that most web design companies are only interested in the larger, more expensive contracts. Which is fine for their accounts, but unfair for small businesses interested in producing a site for their needs. This is why the Small Business Web Design Company was born - to solely help small and home businesses achieve the same high quality at a lower, more affordable price.

How can we offer you such good value?
Primarily, we can offer a great web design service to our customers simply because of our low overheads, and we have passed the savings on to the consumer.

We operate in a ‘virtual office’, which means we are all based in home offices connected together by a computer network we have set up, and we use the latest in internet communication tools - giving us the greatest flexibility and freedom to work together from remote locations, and reducing our costs.

Finally, we operate a ‘paperless’ office, which means all our correspondence and invoices are emailed directly to the customer - so no need for a stamp! All these factors (and more) make it easy for us to charge a lower rate than other companies.

What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is your website’s address, for example: “www.yourdomain.com”. These range in cost depending on the type of domain name you want (such as a .com or a .co.uk for example). All domain extensions (such as .com or .co.uk) are equal, and it really depends on your personal preference as to which one you choose to have. Some domain names are more desirable than others, but again, it’s all down to personal preference.

What is Web Hosting?
A web host is a company that store your website on their computers, and connect it to the internet for everybody to see. Without a place to store your website, nobody would ever see it! Web Hosts often offer different packages depending on the needs of your website - so you can purchase a smaller web host package if your website is only small, or for a larger website, you can purchase a better package, which may give you more features than the smaller packages but will cost you a little more.

All in all, it is best to decide on your web hosting package after you know exactly what you’d like your website to do, and how large it is likely to be. We will discuss this with you when we first talk to you about your requirements.

What is your working process?
Although it is not set in stone, and it may change from time to time depending on the project, this is just to give you a better understanding of how we do things:

  • Give us a ring, and we will discuss with you your project’s needs and goals. If you are looking for a bespoke (custom-made) solution, we will start thinking of ideas for you. This may take a few days.
  • We will arrange with you a good time to meet to discuss our ideas. If you are not ‘local’, we will email you our ideas. At this meeting, if you would like to proceed with our ideas, we will ask for a £50 deposit (for a template design) or £70 (for a bespoke design) to confirm the go ahead. We would also suggest that we arrange the additional costs of Domain Name Registration and Hosting - we can discuss what you might need during our meeting. We would explain to you everything that you need to know, and we would then draw up a contract and send it to you in the post.
  • Once you agree to the contract, sign it and send it back to us. Once we receive it, we will begin work on your site.
  • At this point you would need to complete your website content and email it to us.
  • Depending on our work load, we try to complete the project within a week of receiving your content. We will arrange another meeting with you to show you the finished project. If everything is exactly how you want it to be, and the site is finished, we will need to take the rest of the payment for the project.
  • As soon as we receive the outstanding payment, we will launch your new site in all its glory to the world!
  • When you need your website updating, if you have arranged to make use of our monthly updating service, you can simply email us the changes that you would like to be made, and leave the rest to us! The updates will be uploaded within a maximum of two working days. Normally your update will happen within a few hours of receiving your email.
