Government Agency statistics show that business owners are unsure if having a website is beneficial for their business.

Statistics released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), the government department responsible for collecting and publishing official statistics about the UK’s society and economy, found that 6 out of 10 small businesses are still not investing in websites to sell their services.

The ONS also found that although a majority of small companies were making use of email and Internet access, and several had their own websites, they were not taking full advantage of these products and services within their businesses. Only 25% were using the Internet to sell their products and services, and 44% were taking advantage of the purchasing opportunities the Internet had to offer. According to Mr Leigh Brown, the Small Business Web Design Company’s Director, the main issue is that most people do understand that the web could help them and their business, but do not have the knowledge or expertise to be able to create the site themselves.

“I am still surprised by the number of company representatives we deal with on a day-to-day basis who have been generally misinformed about what a website can do for their organisation, and how cost effective it can be.” Brown added, “My main concern is that the longer companies take to establish an online presence, the harder it will be for them to reap the benefits and rewards that the internet can offer.”

We’ve recently been asked by one of our earliest clients to redesign their site fresh for 2008. You can see how their old site looked by visiting our examples page, where you’ll find a screenshot and a link to their site.

Their new site is currently under way, and they’ve asked us to keep the same style and colour scheme as the original, but to update the layout of the content and optimize the site for a wider audience.

This should mean that not only will existing visitors to the site still find the same look and feel that they like, but it also means that new visitors will be able to find a fresh new site, with plenty of updated content - which as we all know, is good for business!

We have tried to make it flashy, then arty, but then we decided that all we really needed to do is put the information up in a nice and simple way. So… Ta-da!

Over the next few days we will be adding more information to the site to give you more information about ourselves, but for now we hope you enjoy the site.

Today marks the new launch of our web design department. Obviously over the past few months we have been running everything under our ‘Digital Rhapsody’ name. However, we have been talking over coffee and biscuits, and have decided to create a new brand for our web designing work.
